A Forgiving Heart Prayer Guide

Accepting the forgiveness God freely offers is a straightforward proposition. 1 John 1:9 tells us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Unfortunately, extending that same kind of full and free forgiveness to others seems to be more of a challenge for many people. That’s why I created this free printable Forgiving Heart Prayer Guide.

How to Fully Forgive Offenders
Jesus, You command us to pray, “Forgive our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.” (Matthew 6:12) I pray You will help me to fully and freely FORGIVE OTHERS by granting me:
F – Freedom from Bitterness
LORD, put a song of joy in my heart & don’t let me harbor any anger, bitterness, or
resentment there. I turn this whole situation over to You, knowing that You see it all
and will judge rightly.
(Psalm 51:12; Hebrews 12:15; Ephesians 4:31-32, 1 Peter 2:23)
O – Opportunities to Bless
Jesus, may I never attempt to repay evil for evil, but instead follow Your example
of loving others well. Let me do good to those who hate me, bless those who
curse me, & pray for those mistreat me.
(1 Peter 3:9; Luke 6:27-28; Romans 12:14)
R – Radiance of Countenance
LORD, fill me with Your love & let Your light so shine in me that others will see my
good works & glorify You. May the time I spend in Your presence be evident to all
who meet me.
(Ephesians 3:17-19; John 13:34-35; Matthew 5:16; Exodus 34:34-35; Psalm 34:5)
G – Grace to Move Forward
Jesus, thank You for the new life You offer to all who put their hope in You. Don’t
let me stay stuck in the past. By grace, help me forget what lies behind & press
forward, trusting You to make all things new.
(John 20:31; Philippians 3:13-14; 2 Corinthians 5:17)
I – Integrity of Character
God, cultivate within me a deep sense of integrity, humility, & truth. You warned
those who think they stand to take heed, lest they fall. Have mercy upon me &
guard me against such pride & hypocrisy.
(2 Timothy 2:24-25; 1 Corinthians 10:12; Matthew 15:7-9)
V – Victory over Self-Pity
Father, help me do everything without grumbling or complaining. Let me give
thanks in all circumstances instead. Don’t let me sink in the mire of self-pity but
rather rejoice in Your salvation!
(Philippians 2:14; 1 Thessalonians 5:18; Psalm 69:14-18; Psalm 18:46)
E – Eyes to See Your Hand at Work
LORD, I recognize that what others intend for evil, You will always use for good.
Help me see that You are continually causing all things to work together for my
growth & Your glory according to Your perfect plan.
