A Prayer for Israel
It’s been a while since I’ve added any new prayers to my collection of free printable prayer guides, but a reader recently contacted me through Instagram to ask if I would write A Prayer for Israel.
That seemed like a very reasonable request for two reasons:
- With everything that’s been going on in in the world these days and with all the unrest in the Middle East, Israel needs prayer now more than ever! (Psalm 70:5)
- God makes it clear in His Word that those who bless Israel will be blessed and those who curse Israel will be cursed. (Genesis 12:3)

And may the LORD incline His ears to this prayer and show the wonders of His loving devotion, as He saves by His right hand those who seek refuge from their foes. (Psalm 17:6-7)
A Prayer for God’s Chosen People
I = Insulate them from harm
God, be to Israel a protective shield and a strong tower. Go before them, smoothing the way, surrounding them with Your presence, and serving as their rear guard. Preserve them from all evil as You vigilantly watch over Your people from this time forth and forever.

S = Set them apart for Your purpose
LORD, You have distinguished Israel from all other nations as Your own treasured possession. You have called them to be holy, as You Yourself are holy. May they exalt and worship You in Your holy mountain as they faithfully keep all Your commandments.

R = Restore peace in their land
May Your peace and mercy rest upon Israel, O God! Though mountains be shaken and hills be removed, don’t forsake your covenant with Jacob. Send Your messengers to proclaim to them the gospel of peace and salvation and to say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

A = Anoint their leaders with wisdom
LORD, we know “wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability.” Grant Israel’s governors understanding and discernment. May they rule Your people with integrity and justice. Let Your favor rest upon them. Bless and confirm the work of their hands.

E = Establish them in Your Word
God, sanctify Israel in the truth; Your Word is truth. May they hide it in their heart and diligently teach it to their children as they sit at home, walk along the road, lie down, and rise up. Your Word is sweeter than honey. May they learn to love and mediate on it day and night.

L = Lead them to faith in the Messiah
LORD, Your people have been scattered like lost sheep. Have compassion on Israel and rescue them. Draw them to the good Shepherd who lays down His life for the flock. Help them recognize in Jesus the Messiah for whom Israel has watched and waited so long.
