Praying for Your Sister

Well, this morning I was able to finish the companion to the free printable Prayer for Brothers I shared on the blog yesterday. So without further ado, I give you my new Prayer for Sisters. I hope these prayers will bless your family, whether your children are praying for their siblings or you use them to life your own brothers and sisters up before the LORD in prayer.

A Prayer for My Sister

LORD, I lift my sister up to You in prayer and ask You to bless her with…

Salvation

Draw my sister to Yourself, God. Convict her of sin & give her grace to repent. May she trust
You with her whole heart & follow You her whole life. Root her in Your Word, grow her in faith &
virtue as You equip her for every good work.

John 6:44 – 2 Corinthians 7:10 – Proverbs 3:5-6 – 2 Timothy 3:15-17

Integrity

LORD, teach my sister the truth & stand her firmly upon it. Guard her against hypocrisy &
people-pleasing. May she weigh her words carefully, always speaking with kindness & grace,
yet with unwavering conviction.

Ephesians 6:14 – 1 Peter 2:1 – Galatians 1:10 – Proverbs 31:26 – Colossians 4:6 – Hebrews 10:23

Self-image

Help my sister know she is fearfully & wonderfully made, knit together by Your loving hand. May
she pay no heed to Satan’s lies or the world’s ever-shifting standards, but cultivate the gentle
& quiet spirit that is so precious in Your sight.

Teachability

God, give my sister an appetite for learning & a desire to be conformed to Christ’s image. May
she seek wisdom like buried treasure. Help her grow in understanding, while staying humble &
open to godly counsel & correction.

Endurance

LORD, help my sister run with endurance the race You’ve set before her. Teach her to be still &
wait patiently for You. Give her joy in the midst of trials since she knows You use such hardships
to increase her endurance.

Relationships

LORD, strengthen my sister’s relationships with You & with her family. May she choose wise
friends & mentors who sharpen her like iron. Give her a faithful community of believers for
mutual encouragement.

I love praying scripture over my family and friends. Doing so serves two purposes:

First, it aligns my prayers with the heart of God as revealed in His Word, so that I can earnestly pray not for my own will but for His to be done.

And, second, meditating on God’s Word in prayer helps to transform me. It molds and shapes and renews my own mind to be more conformed to the image of Christ. A win-win, for sure!
