Loving Life at Home is a sister site to our first blog, Flanders Family Homelife:
If you spend much time on either of our websites, you will likely notice the absence of targeted ads, pop-up videos, sponsored posts, link insertions, and other annoying/distracting methods of monetizing that are so ubiquitous online these days. I know incorporating such revenue streams would help defray the costs of running these websites, but I also suspect doing so would drive traffic to products and services I’d never willingly endorse nor support, much less use myself. And I’m unwilling to do that.
So we’ve opted to keep both our websites relatively ad-free. There are only two exceptions I’ve made to this rule over the years:
- Sometimes I post banner ads for books we’ve written ourselves, as my husband and I stand 100% behind every word of these resources. If you click on any such ad and decide to buy, we’ll receive royalties for any/all books purchased.
- Occasionally I also link to products (primarily books) that I’ve personally used/read, liked, and believe would be helpful to my readers. When you click through to purchase products I’ve recommended via these affiliate links, our family earns a small referral fee, which helps defray the ever-growing cost of keeping both our websites up and running.
Our whole family loves to read and discuss good books. I publish monthly reviews of new titles on Flanders Family Homelife as I finish them and — less frequently — book reviews, round-ups of favorite titles on a given topic, or top 10 lists for a given year on Loving LIfe at Home.
Although we occasionally receive books as gifts or win copies in giveaways, the vast majority of titles we read and review are chosen and purchased by us (often in multiple copies, as our older children plan to take their favorites with them when they leave home). Either way, the opinions we express are entirely our own honest evaluations.
